My journey of writing a novel.
Globalisation was at peak. New millennium had hit, India was changing fast. With it came technology and exposure to various cultures, and stories from all over the world. I got to know John Rambo and Bruce Lee.
I loved Shaktimaan, it was also the time when Cable TV exploded in Indian homes, which included mine as well and I had access to Cartoon Network, TNT, AXN and various other channels. I watched Titanic and Jurassic Park, I didn't fully understood everything, but I was mesmerized. I used to fight with my father just to watch Aahat on Sony and Zee Horror Show late at night. I was scared, but I loved that.
In 2000, Mission Impossible 2 released, Tom Cruise slide down a cliff, and then those sunglasses exploding, made me want to dive into the world of cinema. Around the same time, my mama ji handed me a bunch of Raj Comics, Nagraj, Doga, Super Commando Dhruva and of Chacha Chaudhary. I was hooked and soon, I discovered Marvel and DC, I was lost in the characters, I was glued on those graphic arts and stories.
And all this happened in a short span of time.
Somewhere along the way, I discovered books. In my school library I devoured Champak, Hardy Boys, Goosebumps, and Stephen King. Those stories stayed with me and I started writing short stories, performed in school plays, danced in functions. The art pulled me towards itself.
But like most of us, I followed the “safe” path. I did my management studies, got a degree and went for corporate jobs. That was the plan. I chose marketing as a profession because it gave me a chance to let out my creativity and storytelling. I got busy in my life, yet stories always disturbed me in a good way, it was my guilty pleasure. Books and movies remained my constant. I consumed content like a film critic, but slowly I started noticing the repetition, the predictability and saturation. As an audience, I wasn’t satisfied.
That dissatisfaction planted a seed: "Let's try to tell fresh stories."
That’s how it started. I finally dared to express my creativity once again. Hope my words bring billions together!
